Hanson Avenue Railroad Crossing Plaza

In late 2013, the Hammond Downtown Development District approached Adam Perkins with a request to design a pedestrian plaza to provide safe and controlled pedestrian access across what was once a vehicular Railroad crossing in Downtown Hammond, LA.  Intended to act as a nexus connecting new commercial development to the west, an existing public sidewalk running south of the site, and a proposed sidewalk to the north, the plaza will provide a visually appealing plaza.  In addition to providing pedestrian access, the plaza will serve a proposed Farmer’s Market Pavilion, and also provide a display of public art in the form of arched metalwork framing the axis of Hanson Avenue’s previous path across the tracks.
